Swing into the Past: Introducing Local Students to Golf and WW2 Heritage.

Golf coach Chris Fenn talks golf with local youngsters on the Toptracer® Range

London Airlinks Golf Course is thrilled to announce a new initiative that blends the excitement of golf with the fascinating history of the local area. Dairy Meadow School students will be the first to experience this unique program this March, diving into both the sport and the site’s rich past as Heston Airport.

The program offers a fun and engaging introduction to golf, including a brief tutorial, driving range practice, and putting green experience. But it doesn’t stop there. Children will also learn more about the fascinating history of the golf course, which served as London’s primary commercial airport before Heathrow during World War II.

“We believe in the power of golf to teach valuable life skills, and we’re thrilled to share this experience with the children of our community,” said Sukh Deol, Centre Manager for London Airlinks. “Combining the fun of golf with the rich history of our site, including its role as Heston Airport and the backdrop for Neville Chamberlain’s iconic 1938 return, creates a unique and educational opportunity.”

Dairy Meadow School will visit this month, followed by Norwood Green Infant and Junior School in the coming weeks. The children will learn about the airport’s significance during the war and view the historic photographs of Neville Chamberlain upon his return from Munich, where he made his “Peace For Our Time” declaration. This connection to a pivotal moment in world history will provide a compelling learning experience alongside the golfing activities.

“We are delighted to be partnering with London Airlinks Golf Course on this exciting project,” said Alex Feldman, Deputy Headteacher from Dairy Meadow School. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for our students to try a new sport and learn about the remarkable history right on their doorstep.”

London Airlinks Golf Course is committed to fostering community engagement and providing enriching experiences for local children. This initiative is a testament to that commitment, blending sport, education, and local heritage.
