Fresh from the Fairways: March 2025 Edition

Welcome to your quarterly update

Rising temperatures and longer days signal that summer is just around the corner, and the excitement is building at Castle Point Golf Course. We’re thrilled to provide you with an exclusive, insider’s look at the preparations ensuring a truly exceptional summer of golf.

Here’s what we’ll be covering in this edition:

  • Golf course update from our Head Greenkeeper
  • Upcoming events
  • Promotions & special offers
  • Clubhouse & catering
  • Team update
  • Community news

Golf Course Update

Despite another challenging winter, the golf course was remarkably resilient and remained fully open, while many local courses were forced to close. One factor is the natural free-draining soil of our links-style course, but it’s also down to dedicated greenkeeping team, led by Jay Clark.

The course is in excellent playing condition, with buggies readily available. We’ve initiated our seasonal cutting routines to enhance growth and refine the course’s shape and definition.

Our 2025 agronomy program began in mid-March with the first granular fertiliser application to the greens.

Winter improvement projects are now complete, further elevating course quality for the upcoming season. These projects included:

  • Removal of bunkers on the 7th and 10th holes.
  • Expansion of fairways and semi-rough on select holes to improve pace of play.

We have also expanded our buggy rental fleet including the addition of a catering buggy, to arrive shortly, expanding our rental fleet.

Upcoming Events

Get ready to tee off! With the golf season rapidly approaching, April is bursting with golfing offers.

Anticipation is already building for the Masters, where we’ll unveil a spectacular weekend of deals celebrating the year’s first major.

Immediately following, enjoy our Bank Holiday Weekender promotion during the first long weekend of 2025. April is shaping up to be a phenomenal month for golfers!

Clubhouse & Hospitality

This April we’re expanding our outdoor seating upstairs, and introducing popular new draught beers, including 0% Guinness by popular request! What’s more, we’re adding a catering buggy to bring refreshments directly to you on the course.

The clubhouse menu is also getting a makeover. Get ready for some delicious new additions:

  • Ziggy crinkle Cut Fries: A taste-test winner!
  • American-Style Pancakes with Streaky Bacon: A delightful light breakfast option.
  • Wagyu Cheeseburger: A premium main course treat.
  • Korean Chicken Wrap: A flavorful and satisfying option.
  • Toasted Teacakes with Hot Drink: The perfect afternoon snack.
  • Hot and Spicy Chicken Wings: Ideal with an ice-cold post-round beer.

This Spring also sees the launch of our new range of Golf Day packages. Designed for groups of 12 of more golfers, you can choose from our popular ready-made packages or mix & match to create your own. Click here to find out more.

Team Update

We are pleased to announce the following updates to our team:

  • Jay Clark joined us as Head Greenkeeper in October, bringing valuable expertise to our course maintenance.
  • To ensure optimal conditions for the upcoming season, we have expanded our team following the successful recruitment of a new Greenkeeper.
  • Congratulations to Billy Firman, who has been awarded Employee of the Quarter for Q1 2025, recognizing his exceptional contributions.

Community Outreach

Castle Point Golf Course is an important social hub, deeply rooted in the local community’s history. This summer, we’re thrilled to host the “Community Sports Challenge: Claim the Greens!” – a spirited competition where local sports and business teams will battle for supremacy on Canvey Island.

Furthermore, we’re proud to support USP College’s SEND program through regular driving range sessions, fostering inclusion and skills development.

Here's to a great summer of golf!

Thank you for taking time to read our latest news round up. We can’t wait to see you on the fairways soon, for what’s going to an epic golf season.

As always, I would really appreciate any comments, feedback or suggestions.

Brad Wellmen
